Lighting for the bathroom...
Designer lighting shines in the bathroom, defining and illuminating your space. From modern Italian to elegant crystal, there are hundreds of ways to decorate. Because most bathrooms are absent furniture and accents, decorating with light becomes even more important than other areas of your home.
Wall sconces for the bathroom...
Wall sconces — generally installed on either side of the mirror — are typically considered the best lighting for applying makeup, shaving and other bathroom tasks. The sconces give you warmth and an intimacy that overhead lighting can't.
Sconces are the go-to choice for vanity lighting, producing a soft, warm radiance that evenly distributes the light on either side of your face, right where you need it most. As a general guideline, install at eye level or approximately 1675mm from the floor and typically 610mm-1016mm apart, so the light beams overlap and produce an even glow.
An endless range of styles means you can allow your creativity to flow but pay attention to the shades, which can influence both form and function. Look for light-filtering materials such as opal, etched linen, rain or piastra glass that provide a stylish solution and gently minimize any glare while allowing the light to gently wash over the face and hair. When there are multiple sinks, provide each area with its own light source.

HINT: LED LIGHTING. Some of your decorator lighting can be made with LED components. Or, use a LED light bulb in an E27 socket or use a LED light bulb in a G9 socket. Choosing a LED light bulb gives you the opportunity to choose your own LED temperature, allowing you to adjust the bulb's color to your personal taste. LIGHTSCENE will help select the best option for your requirements.

How to Make Relaxing Spaces
To make your master bath a haven for relaxation and rejuvenation, make it glow!
Increasingly this area of your home delivers the rare opportunity to enjoy the luxury of some unaccompanied peace and tranquility. Satisfying comforts like cozy seating nooks, chic dressing tables and spa tubs add to its allure. If the space and ceiling height allow, consider a statement chandelier that pampers you with illumination and style. Add a dimmer to your bathroom lighting to allow you flexibility in making the mood right for relaxing. Right: Hinkley's Eve chandelier.

When You Don't Have Space on the Side of the Mirror
When installing fixtures on either side of the mirror is not optimal due to size and installation constraints, mount a fixture directly above the vanity for horizontal illumination. Ideally fixtures will run the width of the mirror and should be installed approximately 1900mm-2032mm above the floor. Another helpful tip: a light, bright vanity top will bounce light upward and further reduce shadows. (Left: Hinkley's Congress collection.)   Even more perfect, you can choose your look, whether traditional or contemporary.
Decorating with Lighting Fixtures
You can choose a lighting collection and add an aesthetic to your bathroom, from the clean Nautical look of Generation's Hettinger (right) to Mid-Century designs, traditional sconces and much, much more!
This can be especially fun since bathrooms are often a blank canvas in which to express your ideas. The addition of a decorative vanity fixture to match the style of your cabinetry will give a another plain room pizzazz without huge effort. For smaller bathrooms, designers recommend keeping your color palette simple so not to overwhelm the space and to keep the bathroom cozy.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Wall sconces for the bathroom are engineered for areas with high levels of moisture; the light fixtures in this section are "damp" rated. (Note: Western Australia regulations require that lighting near a bathtub or sink must be specially rated.)
Check with one of the lighting designers at Lightscene or your electrician to determine what type of fixture may be installed in your bathroom.
